Good news for all local business establishments which are rushing to beat the deadline for the renewal of their business permits. The Paranaque City Government under the leadership of Mayor Florencio M. Bernabe, Jr. extended the deadline of processing and payments therefore without penalties or surcharges.

The extension was made possible with the approval of City Ordinance No. 111 series of 2010 by the Paranaque City Council giving them ample time to prepare and process their necessary documents and pay the assessed amount which will lead to an organized and fast payment and renewal of their business permits.

“Knowing the difficulties of trying to secure the necessary requirements as well as facing pressure brought on by the current economic situation, we want to give them more time to accomplish this.”, Mayor Bernabe said.

The mayor added that his administration is deeply grateful for the support given by business establishments to the city government’s projects and programs.

He also reminded taxpayers to deal only with city employees when paying their dues to ensure that they pay the right amount for their fees and avoid being exploited to give more than they have to.

The deadline for the processing/billing of business permit renewal will be on January 26, 2010 while the last day for payment without penalties and surcharges will be on January 31, 2010.

The Business Permits and Licensing Office, Treasurer’s Office, EDP and support departments will be open on Saturdays falling within the grace period, particularly January 23 and 30 and on the last Sunday of the month, January 31, 2010.

The City hall parking grounds will be prioritized for taxpayers. (Public Information Office)

AS part of its campaign to promote better health services and improve employee productivity, the Parañaque City Government under the leadership of Mayor Florencio Bernabe, Jr. will start with the 2010 edition of its dental health program for city employees and their dependents early next month.

Dubbed as “Kapamilya Ko, Sagot Ko” which is part of the city government’s “Serbisyong Totoo” program and in line with the celebration of the National Health Month, the dental mission will be held on February 10, 2010 from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 pm at the Parañaque City Hall grounds.

The activity is organized by the City Health Office under Dr. Olga Virtusio and is coordinated by the Dental Division headed by Dr. Marissa Banta. 100 city employees and their dependents are due to benefit from the said service.

Included in the service package are free dental consultation and examination as well as tooth extraction. Employees who wish to avail of the free services must register to the City Dental Division before February 8, 2010.

“Dental care, being mistaken as an expensive health service is often set aside by low-income families. Cognizant of its direct relation to nutrition, general well-being and employee productivity, we give our employees and their beneficiaries the opportunity to gain access to dental care for free, as we do for the other citizens of our city.”, Mayor Bernabe said.

The Mayor also reminded residents that tooth problems can be avoided by observing basic dental hygiene as well as making monthly consultations.

Last year, the city government issued additional new dental chairs and dental equipment to the health centers of the city’s 16 barangays in the effort to improve the service and further promote dental health. (Public Information Office)

In support of Presidential Proclamation No. 958 declaring the years 2005 to 2015 as the Decade of Healthy Lifestyle, the JP2 Movement for Community Development Inc., in partnership with the CBCP-Episcopal Commission on Health Care is advocating a Perfect 10 Healthy Lifestyle to prevent the four deadly non-communicable diseases caused by unhealthy practices: Cardiovascular diseases, cancers, chronic obstructive pulmonary ailment and diabetes.

Along the line, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG), through its Memorandum Circular No. No. 2009-177 urged all local chief executives to support the said advocacy campaign by encouraging their respective constituents to adopt the following simple steps to a Perfect 10 Healthy Lifestyle: 1) Eat a variety of nutritious foods everyday, with less salt, sugar and fats; 2) Drink 8 to 10 glasses of water daily; 3) Rest and sleep for 7 to 9 hours every night; 4) Breath clean air. Say no to smoking and prohibited drugs; 5) Exercise everyday and get enough sunlight. Be physically active and maintain normal weight; 6) Manage stress, relax and pray; 7) Maintain personal hygiene and good grooming; 8) Keep a clean household and practice waste management; 9) Consult a physician. Go for a healthy check-up; and 10) Be a role model. Give good examples. Take care of your family and friends.

“One of the first LGUs to adopt the “Healthy Lifestyle Advocacy” is that of Parañaque, under the care of Mayor Jun Bernabe. After introducing the basic concept, the city administration expanded its scope and sustained the effort towards its continuity.”, DILG Parañaque City Director Teresita Fababeir said.

The City boasts of the successful implementation of its Urban Health Equity Assessment and Response Tool (Urban H.E.A.R.T.) Program which continues to win acclaim from various sectors as it consistently makes its mark by making headway in closing gaps and correcting inequities in the delivery of health services in the community.

With this effective evaluation and response mechanism, the Parañaque Urban H.E.A.R.T. Team, headed by City Health Officer Dr. Olga Virtusio has been guided in the formulation of health policies that are intended to do away with unfair health conditions and promote equal access to services, equal utilization of health facilities, and equal quality care for all.

Promoting the health of its employees that they may be able to serve the constituents better, this local government unit regularly renders free FBS and cholesterol diagnostics, medical and dental check-ups, conducts health seminars and holds aerobic dance sessions for city personnel on Friday mornings. Mayor Jun Bernabe also issued Executive Order No. 018-09, series 2009 prohibiting smoking at the city hall and in all city government facilities and service vehicles.

For continuously introducing new concepts and innovations in health care, the Parañaque City Government copped the 2009 Galing Pook Award for Outstanding Local Governance; the 2008 Award for Healthy City with Good Dynamics and Award for Creative Development in Healthy Cities; and the 2006 Award for Progressive Cities with Great Potentials, all from the Alliance for Healthy Cities and the World Health Organization. A message from a reader:

I’m from Golden Acres Subdivision, Talon 5, Las Piñas City.

I have a concern about the street, Ubas street, where our house stands. Ubas street is not finished upto our side. You need to do a reroute if you wanted to go to our place since the street/road itself is not finished, filled with grass/trees and worst, lived with few squatters .

I haven’t brought this up to our homeowner association since I do not know him/her.

I just simply wanted the road/street to be finished from end-to-end so that we can feel that we are part of the subdivision.

Editor’s Note:

We shall forward this to Las Pinas City Hall and see if they can come up with a solution to this.
