Muntinlupa residents will now have their own potable water service under the administration of Mayor Aldrin San Pedro after years of waiting.
Mayor San Pedro said Maynilad Water Services is currently completing its P1.7 billion pipe-laying project that will provide potable water supply to an initial 22,760 families in Muntinlupa by May this year.
Maynilad said the project will complement its state-of-the-art water treatment plant in Putatan, Muntinlupa.
“I have requested Maynilad for the immediate completion of their project in Muntinlupa so that thousands of families can immediately have their own water supply directly in their homes. The people of Muntinlupa are thankful to Maynilad for this landmark project,” the mayor said.
Maynilad said the projects consists of laying 9.4 kilometers of primary lines and 63 km of secondary lines to interconnect Barangays Putatan, Bayanan, Ayala Alabang, and portions of Alabang, Poblacion and Tunasan.
Joel Delos Reyes, technical head of Maynilad’s Muntinlupa Business Area, said the Putatan water treatment facility will produce 50 million liters of water a day (MLD) by May and by the end of the 2010, it can produce a total of 100 million liters of water a day.
“With the additional water supply, we will be able to serve other barangays in Muntinlupa such as Sucat, Buli, Cupang, and remaining areas in Alabang, Poblacion and Tunasan,” delos Reyes said.
Delos Reyes said the project assures 16-psi (pound per square inch) minimum pressure and 24 hours water availability for the households it serves. At 7-psi, water can flow out of a shower at the second floor.
Mayor San Pedro said this will be the first time that Muntinlupa residents will have their own water supply and he is glad that it happened under his administration.
Maynilad said most Muntinlupa residents depend on deepwells and water delivery trucks for their water supply.
To augment this, Mayor San Pedro has been supplying all barangays with free water and mineral water under his “Libreng Tubig” program which he has been implementing since the 1990s when he was still a councilor.
Maynilad said besides the accelerated Muntinlupa pipe-laying project, it also fast-tracked the construction of its Putatan Water Treatment Plant and Villamor Pumping Station last month to avert a possible water shortage in its concession area should El Nino worsen.
With the completion of these water supply and distribution projects, Maynilad will have the capacity to draw and treat water from an alternate source, pump water to elevated areas in Parañaque and Muntinlupa, and deliver surface water to more residents in the South.
Maynilad serves over 7 million customers in Metro Manila and parts of Cavite. Its concession area includes the cities of Manila (all but portions of San Andres & Sta Ana), Quezon City (west of San Juan River, West Avenue, EDSA, Congressional, Mindanao Avenue, the northern part starting from the Districts of the Holy Spirit & Batasan Hills), Makati (west of South Super Hi-way), Caloocan, Pasay, Parañaque, Las Piñas, Muntinlupa, Valenzuela, Navotas and Malabon all in Metro Manila, and the municipalities of Bacoor, Imus, Kawit, Noveleta and Rosario in Cavite Province.

In celebration of World Health Day 2010, the Parañaque City Government under the leadership of Mayor Florencio Bernabe, Jr. will hold a health festival called H2H: Hataw Health Festival next month.
Parallel to the World Health Day 2010 “1,000 Cities, 1,000 Lives” objectives, the city government aims to accomplish the following goals: Promote health and environmental protection; and train students, youth and the rest of the citizenry in integrating health and environment in cultural development.
“With the continuing growth of our population and the rapid urbanization that is taking place, we need to develop a culture of health and environmental responsibility and promote action around health risks associated with development.” Mayor Jun Bernabe said.
Guided by the theme, “Kulturang Kalusugan: Parañaque City’s Celebration of Culture, Health and Environment”, the city administration has prepared a line of productive activities that will redound to the benefit of the citizens.
Workshops in the visual arts; theater; music; film; literature; architecture and allied arts; and dance for students, out-of-school youth and adults will be held from April 7-10, 2010 at the Parañaque National High School (PNHS) Main Campus in Brgy. San Dionisio, this city. Registration for the workshops will be held on April 5, 2010 from 10:00A.M – 12:00 P.M. at the San Antonio Gym.
The outputs of the said workshops in the seven arts will be celebrated on April 11, 2010 in a grand street presentation.
Working on the preparations for the H2H: Hataw Health Festival is a committee composed to the following departments in the Parañaque City Government organization: Office of the Mayor; City Health; Planning; Public Information; Youth and Sports; Social Welfare and Development; Tourism; Engineering; Livelihood Resource Management; Building; Traffic Management; local PNP; Parañaque DepEd and PNHS; and Solid Waste & Environmental Sanitation Office. The committee is headed by City Health Officer Dr. Olga Virtusio.
Artists from the Metropolitan Museum are lending their expertise to the project as barangay government units and NGOs are making inputs for the activity.
