“Holy Places, Sacred Spaces” Photo Exhibit in Ayala Alabang
Filed Under Muntinlupa | Leave a Comment
“Holy Places, Sacred Spaces” a solo photo exhibit by Joy Jesena-Barcelon, will be held in cooperation with Asia United Bank in Alabang. The exhibit features 16 stunning photographs of churches, temples and other consecrated places in the Philippines.
Among these is the cavernous Callao Cave Shrine, with beautiful limestone stalactites, stalagmites and an awe-inspiring natural skylight. Located in Cagayan Valley, this is frequented by the pious especially during the Holy Week. The mystic surroundings add to the intensity of their spiritual transcendence.
The impressive Temple of a Thousand Buddhas in Quezon City also provides solemnity, inspiring deep prayer and meditation. Hundreds of polished wooden figurines witness the devotion of these Buddhists.
Even the series of cross-marked graves in the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, when juxtaposed against the nearby towering condominiums, give one cause to contemplate on the true meaning of life.
With these images, Asia United Bank, through the Vice President and Area Head Florante V. Fajardo, and the photographer, Joy Jesena-Barcelon, hope to contribute to the relevance and solemnity of the Lenten Season.
The photo exhibit may be viewed Monday to Friday, during banking hours 9-4pm, at the lobby of Asia United Bank, ground floor of BMW Center, Commerce Avenue, Madrigal Business Park, Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa.

Extra Toll Gates in Las Pinas?
Filed Under Las Piñas | 2 Comments
Click on this link to see where (who?) the extra toll gates in Las Pinas are.
Could be “donations” from jeepney drivers or personal gifts. Maybe it was the traffic enforcer’s birthday. Or maybe for the traffic enforcers not to be too strict with them stopping any time and any where along Alabang-Zapote Road to pick up and drop off passengers.
Whether the traffic enforcer asked for it or whether it was voluntary on the part of the jeepney driver, in our book, it still is wrong.
Alabang Bulletin is not saying that all the LP traffic enforcers of the city are like this particular one but we have witnessed several along the main highway of the city. This time, we were lucky (and hidden) enough to take a video of this illegal doing.

Partido San Pedro campaign kick-off
Filed Under Muntinlupa | 26 Comments

Would appreciate if someone could send us pictures of Fresnedi’s. Thanks. – Editor

LAS PIÑAS CITY , MM – In compliance with the Department of Education’s directive of no graduation fee, 14,502 graduating public elementary and secondary students in Las Piñas City will enjoy subsidized graduation rites while honor students will receive cash incentives.
Valedictorians, salutatorians and honorable mention from elementary and high schools will receive cash incentives of P4,000 P3,000 and P2,000 respectively. The students likewise will enjoy free merienda and transportation fare.
Las Piñas city mayor Vergel ‘Nene’ Aguilar made the announcement after the DepEd has twice issued memos preventing schools from collecting graduation fees.
Aguilar, concurrent chairman of the City School Board, said that the city government has allocated a budget for the graduation rites for toga and souvenir photo.
Aguilar said the move was made not only to provide economic relief to parents during these difficult times but also to make their graduation a very memorable one.
“It is a commitment and my legacy to provide free, quality and accessible public school education to our youths to help shape their future even with the limited income and resources,” Aguilar said.
This year’s graduation rites will be held at the Covered Basketball Court at Verdant Subdivision in Barangay Pamplona III.
The city government also established the first ever City College in 1998 to provide quality college education to 2,000 poor but deserving students of the city every year. Now, it produces top board passers in CPA Board Exams.
In response to the trend of global technology, a three-storey Information Technology Training Center was put up in 2008 to accommodate city scholars to enroll in networking, web design and development, graphic design and animation and programming courses.
Aguilar also pioneered the establishment of the more than 60 day care and feeding centers in spread in all 20 barangays in the city to provide a better headstart for young children. (END)
Please let us know if you know of schools that are charging or charged for graduation fees. – Editor’s Note
