No LRT fare increase! – LRTA
Filed Under News | Leave a Comment
Manila, Philippines — Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) Administrator Melquiades Robles said no fare hike would be imposed anytime soon, allowing commuters to have a sigh of relief. Roles said any additional burden on the riding public would be a “bad start [for] the new administration.”
The Department of Finance (DOF) made a statement earlier this week, saying that fare hikes at the heavily-subsidized LRT Lines 1 and 2 would help the government address its budget shortfall which is projected to hit record levels this year. Robles responded to this saying, “That’s just wishful thinking on the part of the DOF which is understandable because [they] subsidize LRT operations.”
The last fare increase imposed by the LRT was seven years ago. “A fare hike is just wishful thinking by the DOF,” said Robles. “The fares are low because the government subsidizes as much as P40 per passenger.”
“Before any fare hike can be implemented, it has to be approved by the LRT board which has representatives from the Department of Transportation and Communications and the Office of the President.”
Close to half a million passengers ride on Line 1 while Line 2 averages P250,000 passengers daily. The LRTA manages LRT Line 1 which runs from Baclaran to Balintawak and Line 2 which plies Recto to Santolan.

Another erring Las Pinas Traffic enforcer
Filed Under Las Piñas | 2 Comments
Click on this link to see (well, the shot was a little far but you’ll get the idea when you see it) how a Las Pinas traffic enforcer gets his daily “allowance” from dispatchers of shuttles from Las Pinas to Ayala, Makati. This is in front of KFC at the old Fernando’s Supermarket. We saw a P20 bill. Two of them or three.
This is the second time we’ve seen him collect his “gift” but the first time we’ve caught it on video. We need a new phone with a better camera! Haha.
We’re also re-attaching another video that we took some two months back wherein another Las Pinas traffic enforcer was caught in the act of collecting “toll fee” from a jeepney driver.
Hopefully, the Las Pinas City Hall get to see these videos and do something about their erring traffic enforcers.
They can’t even fix the traffic situation in the city and now they’re getting extra payment for not being effective in their work. Only in the Philippines.

Filed Under Paranaque | Leave a Comment
On orders of Parañaque City Mayor Florencio Bernabe, Jr., the City Planning Office headed by Engr. Benigno Rivera organized the Workshop on the Formulation of the Executive-Legislative Agenda and the conference for the city’s 5-year Comprehensive Development Plan; Capacity Development Plan; Gender and Development Plan; and the Annual Investment Plan.
Held on July 21-23, 2010 at the Holiday Inn, Clark Freeport Zone, Angeles City, Pampanga, the mayor-led activity was participated in by the vice-mayor, councilors, barangay chairpersons, SK President, department heads, NGO representatives and officials of the Parañaque DedEd, DILG, PNP, BFP and BJMP.
Discussed at length by resource persons from the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) was the importance, ways and benefits of synchronizing the agenda of the executive department with that of the legislative branch of the local government.
For budgeting and implementation efficiency, the participants also deliberated on the individual department’s plans, soundly establishing priorities following community needs as outlined in Mayor Jun Bernabe’s Project H.E.L.P.S.- Health; Education, Environment and Economic Prosperity; Livelihood and Livability; Peace and Order; Social Services, Socialized Housing, Sports and Senior Citizen Welfare.
“With a synchronized executive and legislative agenda; carefully drawn and well implemented projects and programs; sound governance; and supportive community, we will realize our Vision: “A prime habitat city of the Metro South with quality education, rich culture, social justice, and a healthy environment sustained by an economically competitive and sound governance, synergized by capable, participative and God-fearing citizenry.”, Mayor Bernabe said.

Can we finally say goodbye to the streetchildren along Madrigal Ave.?
Filed Under Muntinlupa | 8 Comments
Alabang Bulletin got an email from a concerned resident regarding the beggars in the intersection of Madrigal Ave./Alabang-Zapote Road recently. Here is her email:
I would also like to ask what the Ayala Alabang village head or local government is doing about the street children and beggars in front of Ayala Alabang and along Madrigal Avenue.
First of all, it is not safe for these people to be there. Considering there are small kids which you can hardly see, it is like an accident waiting to happen.
Secondly, these people eat on the streets and throw their garbage on the sidewalk. I am hoping that the Ayala Alabang village will have some kind of program to help these people so that they do not succumb to begging and loitering near the village entrance.
We were lucky enough to have Barangay Ayala Alabang chairman Ruben Baes (through the kindness of Jol Espiritu-Cruel) to address the matter.
Here is his reply:
“I am not aware of the position of Ayala Alabang Village Association. However, the city orders the apprehension of these street children and that their parents are to be penalized for allowing them to roam the streets. Barangay Ayala will strengthen its efforts to immediately apprehend street children along Madrigal Ave starting today.
Sadly, there is no concrete program in place to deal with these children. As we have discovered in the past, those we have apprehended aren’t really ‘street children’ in the sense that they all do permanently live in our neighboring areas but are simply placed along Madrigal Ave by ‘professional’ groups. Apprehending them will simply take them away from the area for a while, only for them to return soon after.
But rest assured that we will continue to consult and coordinate with the Muntinlupa DSWD on how to handle this matter better. Thank you for bringing it to our attention.”
Again, we would like to thank barangay chairman Ruben Baes for his prompt reply and action and hopefully the streetchildren in the area as well as those in the surrounding areas can be removed from the streets and placed where they should be–in their homes, at school or anywhere far away from danger.
