Public school students, kinakalburo

Pati magaaral sa Las Piñas at Muntinglupa, damay….
Para palang manggang hilaw ang ating mga magaaral sa pampublikong eskwelahan. Alam niyo bang matagal nang pilit na isinasaksak sa loob lamang ng sampung taon ang dapat matutuhan ng mga bata sa loob ng 12 taon? Cramming ang tawag dito at hindi ito ipinapayo ng mga dalubhasa sa larangan ng edukasyon.
Ika nga e, para silang manggang ikinakalburo ng gobyerno para mahinog at maging pera agad. Sa mga hindi pa nakaaalam, ang ibang manggang nabibili nyo sa palengke ay ginamitan ng kalburo para mahinog agad ang mga prutas kahit wala pa sa panahon. Dahil sapilitan at pwersado nga ang pamamaraan, kadalasan sa mga kinakalburong mangga ay maasim at lasang ewan.
Marahil kung hindi inihain ni Education Secretary Armin Luistro ang planong K+12 ay di pa natin malalamang ganito pala ang kasalukuyang kalakaran sa ating public school system. Napipiho kong napakarami pa rin sa ating magulang at kababayan ang hindi nakakabatid na isa tayo sa natitirang dalawang bansa sa buong mundo na gumagamit pa rin ng makalumang sistemang ten-year basic education. Kung nagtataka kayo kung bakit lagi na lang tayong kulelat sa pag-unlad, malamang ito ang dahilan. Sinasabi kasing kapag mahina ang pundasyon sa edukasyon ay mahina rin ang takbo ng bayan. . Ayaw man nating aminin, sa kasalukuyan ay hinog sa pilit ang mga produkto ng public schools.
Kaya naman napapanahon na rin talaga ang mungkahing K+12 ni Bro. Luistro, na isa ding dating maestro, na gawing mala-21st century na ang ating basic public education system tulad ng ibang mga mauunlad na bansa. Hindi tayo pwedeng nakatunganga at nakanganga na lang habang nilalampaso at nilalampasan tayo ng ating mga kapitbahay. Sa katunayan nga, ultimong ang munting bansang Vietnam na pumailalaim sa matagal na digmaan ay mas umaarangkada na ngayon ang ekonomiya kumpara sa “Pinas.
Ano ba ang ibig sabihin ng K+12? Simple lang. ‘Di tulad ng umiiral ngayon na kung saan ay sampung taon lamang ang kailangan upang makagradweyt patungong kolehiyo, sa makabagong programang ito, dadaan ang lahat ng estudaynte sa kindergarten, 6 na taon sa elementarya, 4 na taon sa Junior High School at 2 taon sa Senior High School (SHS). Sa ilalim ng plano, hindi tatanggapin sa kolehiyo ang sinuman kung hindi nakakumpleto ng K+12.
May katwiran din si Bro. dahil sa panahong makatapos ang mga bata ng SHS, sila ay 18 anyos na at masasabing mature na at may sapat nang kaalaman upang pumasok sa sinasabing masalimuot na corporate world o kaya’y pagiging negosyante..
Sa pinaplanong 12-year curriculum, ituturo sa mga kabataan ang mga subject na entrepreneurship, business management, information communications technology at iba pang mga subject na kakailanganin nila sa pagharap sa hamon ng modernisasyon kaya’t paglabas ng paaralan ay agad silang makakapag-ambag ng kanilang talino at kakayahan sa tinatawag na productivity ng bansa.
At dahil suportado sila ng business community, ang mga K+12 graduate ay pwede nang mag-empleyo karakaraka ‘di tulad ngayon na kailangan mayron silang college diploma bago matanggap sa trabaho. Ito ay pangako ng mga negosyante at dambuhalang mga kumpanya dito na masugid na sumusuporta sa pagpapataas ng antas ng ating public school system. Kasama din sa tumataguyod sa K+12 ang mga dayuhang chambers of commerce tulad ng American Chamber of Commerce (Amcham), European Cahamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP), Japanese Chamber of Commerce, Korean Chamber of Commerce. Di ba napakagandang balita nito para sa ating mga magulang at estudyante? Sa katunayan ay maraming trabaho dito sa bansa pero hindi angkop ang kaalaman at kakayahan ng ating mga high school graduate sa nagaabang na kayod. Dahil pulpol at palpak ang ating sistema, sa oral at written exam pa lang, lampaso agad dahil baw-wawaw ang Ingles.
Sa kasalukuyan, ang pagkakaroon ng 12 taong edukasyon ay matatamo lamang sa mga pribado at exclusive school. Ngayon, dahil sa planong K+12 ni Sec. Luistro magiging abot kamay na rin ito sa mga public school student. Ika nga, pantay na ang labanan.
Sana ito ang maintidihan ng mga magulang na tumututol sa K+12. Sa kunting dagdag na sakripisyo, sila rin kalaunan ng kanilang mga anak ang makikinabang dito. At pwede ba, huwag na sanang makiangkas ang ating mga pulitiko sa isyu dahil imbes na makatulong ay nakagugulo lamang sila. Hindi naman kasi tayo maaring nakapako sa isang lugar na lamang, dapat din tayong umusad. Naniwala akong maiiahon ng K+12 ang ating bansa sa kasalukuyang bulok nating sistema. Kung hindi tayo magbabago, paano tayo aasenso?

Las Pinas folks asked to have a clean All Saints/All Souls Day

In observance of All Saints Day and All Souls Day, Las Piñas City Mayor Vergel Aguilar today encouraged the public to maintain order and not litter the cemeteries with trash.
Aguilar likewise ordered the local police to ensure police visibility and implement traffic rerouting scheme to avoid inconvenience to commuters expected to troop to the cemeteries starting on Sunday.
He said police visibility and round-the-clock monitoring is needed because while relatives are visiting their departed loved ones, some unscrupulous individuals and thieves are waiting to strike in their homes.
The mayor issued the twin appeal citing the age-old customs of remembering our deceased loved ones but messed up with celebrations taking for granted the surroundings with litters and rubbish.
Aguilar called on the public to celebrate “Todos Los Santos” and “Undas” with simplicity, spirituality and respect for both the dead and the living by maintaining cleanliness to protect the environment.
“We must ensure to leave the resting places of our loved ones litter-free,” he added.
He also urged residents to clean the tombs of their departed ones without causing pollution; bring clean-burning candles that do not yield black fumes or ash; offer local fresh flowers, not plastic ones, and be responsible for your discards.
Aguilar said it is much better to bring their own discards bags and bring them home for sorting, reusing, recycling or composting.
The city’s Kaagapay sa Linis Sementeryo brigade and assistance, both by organized by various socio-civic groups, would be around to assist the public in keeping the three cemeteries – Golden Homes, St. Joseph Catholic and Manuyo 1 – safe and clean. (END)

MANILA, Philippines – The Supreme Court has reversed its decision granting the request of Hubert Webb to subject to DNA testing the semen taken from the body of rape victim Carmela Vizconde, ending legal impediments for the tribunal to finally resolve the two-decade-old case.
In an eight-page resolution, the tribunal granted the motion for reconsideration filed by the Office of the Solicitor General, which argued that the high court’s April 20 resolution granting Webb’s request violated the Rules of Court regarding DNA testing.
The high court also noted the admission of the National Bureau of Investigation that it “could no longer produce” the semen samples taken from the victim’s cadaver.
“Consequently, the DNA analysis ordered by this court upon the request of appellant can no longer be done,” the court said in the October 19 resolution, which was released on Wednesday.
“The court may now proceed to resolve the issues raised in the petition/appeal on the basis of existing evidence which have been formally offered by the parties and/or made part of the records,” it added.
