Once again, let us all be wary of people in our surroundings. Not to look at everyone as if they are out to steal our belongings but just enough to be careful with your prized items.
Thank you to the reader for sending this email to us to serve as warning to everyone who does their groceries:
I am sending this incident to you (happened to my wife just yesterday, 12-FEB-2012) and hoping you will publish it in the alabang bulletin website for all people to know and avoid becoming another victim of pick-pockets/criminals roaming freely inside SM Southmall. I am currently out of the country and this is my wife’s email to me:
“at around 2:30 pm inside southmall supermarket along the ailes of the grocery items, while i’m pushing my grocery cart away from one grocery stand (cabinets) suddenly two women infront of me with their carts too, blocked me on each side, i told the other girl on my right to move forward so i can pass, instead she helped me passed without knowing that somebody at my back opened and picked already my wallet. I didn’t notice that my bag was opened and my wallet wasn’t there anymore until the time i have to pay the groceries at the counter. I reported the incident to the guard on duty, he assisted me to the customer service wherein in another shopper telling the other guard to blocked all the exits, because her wallet was stolen too, but they told us they cannot do that because they weren’t sure of the criminals’ identities. We even asked them to view the cctv so we can identify right away the pick-pockets but they told us that they have to request first and only the main office could do it. And the guard told me that like this incident, they just get the cash and the wallet with the cards will be recovered after closing time of the supermarket.
To my dismaye i left the place and asked the bank teller inside the mall to blocked all my cards so they could not use them and went home without my wallet and groceries.
At around 10:44pm same day an employee of sm texted informing me that my wallet was recovered and my cards were intacted without my cash.”
In this incident happened to my wife, I did not see the role of the Security in SM Southmall. The way they talk to the victims, it appears that this unfortunate incidents happens in a regular basis but looks like they are helpless, they are stupid, they are lazy, they have no security procedure in place, or they are involved.
Thank you and I hope this incident will be published to warn the public.

Roy Rivas

The Philippine Dental Association, in partnership with Colgate-Palmolive Philippines, Inc., is celebrating the 8th National Dental Health Month this February
2012.
Also known as the Oral Health Month, the event features health advocacy campaign projects such as the “Kabarangay sa Colgate” in some communities and the “Zero Cavity Mission”. These projects are being featured in national media and accompanied by activities such as free dental checkups, oral health lectures, tooth brushing drills in selected barangays.
In line with this celebration, the Las Pinas Dental Chapter reached out to those areas such as the TS Cruz Subdivision in Almanza 2, Las Pinas City last February 13, 2012 and the Bernabe Compound in Pulanglupa I, Las Pinas City last February 15, 2012, who have limited access to dental health services, those who are financially constrained and those who suffer in silence the consequence of poor dental and oral health. Aside from the procedures mentioned above, LPDC also performed other dental services and treatments such as extraction, oral prophylaxis, restorative dentistry, prosthodontics, nail trimming, alis kuto, proper handwashing techniques and parents’ education.
The Kabarangay sa Colgate at TS Cruz was attended by 61 government and private dentists and volunteers and served 309 patients while the Pulanglupa I Dental Mission was attended by 49 government and private dentists and volunteers and around 149 patients have availed the dental services.

Here is a comment that we got from a Las Pinas resident and plastic dealer in Las Pinas:
I’m not againts in banning plastic in Las Pinas, even if I’m one of the distributors of plastic & Styro here in Las Pinas, kaya lang po biglaan ang announcement nila. Halos 80% ng residents even the merchants are not aware of this ordinance.
To the City government of Las Pinas, please give us full context of your guidelines kung ano talaga ang bawal detailed by detailed. I will give you an example. 3 oz.-12 oz plastic cups used by taho, icecream vendor, amviant vendor. Ice bag plastic, one of the source income ng pangkaraniwang household. Thin plastic used by carinderia for taking out foods?
What are they alternatives. The end users suffers a lot hindi dahil sa BAWAL na nga, kundi ano ang ipapalit nila kundi made of paper na halos 3x ang taas ng presyo na ibig sabihin tataas din ang costing ng tinda nila.
Please comment to our dear Mayor.

That’s what the Las Pinas Traffic Office told Alabang Bulletin last week when we placed a call to ask about this very confusing matter.
It can be recalled that several residents approached us to ask whether having a Friendship Route sticker exempts them from the city number coding.
A lot of residents with the shortcut stickers said that traffic enforcers usually let them pass and don’t apprehend them when they see that their vehicles have the Friendship Route stickers.
When Alabang Bulletin asked two traffic enforcers stationed along the Philam Village portion of Alabang-Zapote Road, the two said that there was no official order from City Hall but that yes, vehicles with stickers are exempted from the number coding.
The city traffic office on the other hand said that it depends on the apprehending officer.
“Pag may sticker kayo at hulihin kayo, pwede naman pakiusapan ang apprehending enforcer at sabihin na taga-Las Pinas kayo,” said the traffic office personnel.
Other residents said that this could be a way for Las Pinas to prioritize their own constituents.
We still don’t know why there is no official proclamation regarding this matter but we have been waiting for a reply from the Las Pinas Public Information Office for two months now.
Still no reply about this subject.
Although seemingly unfair to non-residents of the city, Las Pinas residents who possess the much-coveted Friendship Route stickers are lucky.
But we are still waiting for a formal declaration regarding this.
In the mean time, enjoy the so-called exemption, Las Pinas folks.
