A reader messaged us and asked us if we could warn residents of Soldiers Hills Village in Muntinlupa about a riding in tandem thieves going around the area.

According to the concerned reader, the suspects act as if they are just doing something on their motorcycles but in reality are observing those they can victimize.

He gave an instance wherein the riders pulled on the bag of a girl who did not let go of her bag. The girl was dragged several feet because of this. This was around 8pm.

“Di namen sila ma-identify kase mga naka-helmet,” said the concerned reader.

There were also instances wherein these riders would position themselves across some houses then as soon as the owner of the house enters their property, the suspects would barge into the house with them.

“Security is not enough. We should all help each other in ensuring the safety in our community,” said the reader, adding that residents should report suspicious-looking men hanging around the neighborhood to authorities immediately.

Have you ever experienced being in Alabang Town Center or Festival Mall shopping and having a good time when all of a sudden you get a call and are informed that there was an emergency and you have to go to Asian Hospital immediately? But, you don’t have a car. AND you have several paper bags of items that you’ve just bought.

A thought comes to mind—I can always take a cab!

So you go outside and try to look for a taxi. Wow there are several taxi cab terminals/waiting areas outside!

You approach a driver and tell him where you need to go.

Then he tells you that there’s a fixed price of P200. Game over.

Here are several stories from you, our readers, about the exorbitant fees that these taxis charge our dear commuters:

“We rode a cab last Sunday afternoon at Festival Mall and they charged us P200. We just live nearby. Tsk tsk,” said Krystel Ramirez.

“TAI Taxi has been able to get away with unmetered fixed rates through the years despite public complaints and even media exposure. Looks like someone really powerful is operating the business,” said Joanna Posadas.

“I think to be asked to pay P150 for a cab ride from South Station to Northgate is overcharging. Wala pa talagang P60 yon kung imemetro. Sa Makati nga, nagmemetro mga taxi, dito sa Alabang hinde. If that’s the case, dapat mag-set na lang ng fixed cab fare kung tatagain rin lang. By the way, “taga fare” from San Pedro (United) to Festi is P450. Grrrrr lang talaga,” said Julie Beth Rosel.

“Rare na mga taxi drivers na hindi garapal. A few years back, I was surprised that the fare from ATC until Convergys-Northgate was P120. Imagine that. I understand gasoline prices are up but that does not give them the right to be abusive,” said JayCab Cabrera.

“ATC to Asian Hospital—P250!” exclaimed @MomsieNads

“If those cabs cannot charge passengers fairly, it’d be better to have these terminals slashed off by the mall management,” suggested Elgin Jude Garcia, saying that only those that are in “terminals” do the overcharging.

“GF and I just bought a laptop from ATC. We wanted to ride a cab to ensure our safety. ATC to RFC in Las Pinas—P350?! We rode a jeep,” related Kevin Dayleg.

“ATC to AAV—P250! They should make it reasonable especially when we lose part of ATC parking soon with Rustan’s building! Promote PUVs!” epressed Kevin Choy.

“ATC to BF Homes—P300. Fixed rate daw!” said Oliver Nobuta.

Maybe the mall managements should talk to these “contracted” taxis because the overcharging affects their shoppers directly. Maybe they should protect their customers too by not just ensuring affordable products but also affordable transportation coming from their establishments.

Calling on the mall managements, the LTFRB and the Muntinlupa Traffic Enforcement Office.

We saw this post from a friend’s friend on Facebook and decided to put it here.

Regardless of whether the guy really had plans of taking the kid, we all should be more careful when we’re in public places:

Here is the post:

Yesterday afternoon, my wife, son and Yaya went to buy some groceries at a supermarket in Sucat and while my wife was lining up to pay, Yaya and my son went to the “Funhouse” arcade near the food court.

While my son was playing with a video game, a suspicious bald man, around 5’10”, with medium built and decent clothing approached yaya and was instructing her to give a piece of paper to my wife and leave my son with him.

Yaya refused to follow his instruction so he insisted by bribing her with money. She continued to refuse with a louder voice which drew attention so the man walked away.

She immediately told my wife what happened and when they were about to go home, they saw him exiting the supermarket.

Before they could point him out, he got into his car and drove away.

We reported the incident and they allowed us to view their surveillance cams. There we clearly saw that from the time yaya and my son entered the arcade, the man kept following them at a certain distance.

Before he approached them, he made a phone call and started to converse with yaya.

Please take extra caution when you’re out with your children. Always keep them close where you can see them…no matter where you are.

Beware of kidnappers!

Again, let us always be aware of our surroundings.

The resident who originally complained about the water situation in Pilar Village in Las Pinas wrote to us again and had this to say this time:

Dear Sir,
I am writing to you to request for the reposting of the Pilar Waterworks complaint last Jan. 3. I noticed that after that complaint we experienced a continuous water supply for a few weeks, but now, we’re back to the old ways. What’s also bothering me is that they don’t even give any notice to the residents regarding the water schedule (the 30min. supply).

Here is a comment that we got from a Las Pinas resident and plastic dealer in Las Pinas:

I’m not againts in banning plastic in Las Pinas, even if I’m one of the distributors of plastic & Styro here in Las Pinas, kaya lang po biglaan ang announcement nila. Halos 80% ng residents even the merchants are not aware of this ordinance.

To the City government of Las Pinas, please give us full context of your guidelines kung ano talaga ang bawal detailed by detailed. I will give you an example. 3 oz.-12 oz plastic cups used by taho, icecream vendor, amviant vendor. Ice bag plastic, one of the source income ng pangkaraniwang household. Thin plastic used by carinderia for taking out foods?

What are they alternatives. The end users suffers a lot hindi dahil sa BAWAL na nga, kundi ano ang ipapalit nila kundi made of paper na halos 3x ang taas ng presyo na ibig sabihin tataas din ang costing ng tinda nila.

Please comment to our dear Mayor.
