Aguilar orders fast tracking of clean up drive for school opening

Las Piñas City Mayor Nene Aguilar today directed officials of schools in the city’s public elementary and secondary schools to conduct massive cleanup activities in preparation for the school opening next month.
The activity is part of the series of clean-up activities this summer to strengthen city government’s effort to “care for the environment, maintain cleanliness and attend to the physical and cultural well-being of the people.”
Aguilar, on monitoring the said concerted efforts, wants to ensure a 100% (percent) compliance of the city’s public elementary and high schools to benefit the more than 14,000 schoolchildren who will be enrolled this school year.
Las Piñas City Schools Division Superintendent Dr. Norma Ablan Adamos also announced that May 21-25 will be Brigada Eskwela Clean-up activity involving school principals, teachers and non-teaching personnel, parents and non-government organizations (NGO’s).
School officials and employees are mandated to conduct the necessary preparation before the start of the school year to prevent delay or unnecessary loss of school time.
Volunteers to Brigada Eskwela ensure that all classrooms and school facilities like chairs, tables, boards as well ventilation are properly maintained not only to be more conducive for learning but also for the safety and protection of the school children.
Aguilar likewise appealed to private school owners, residents and homeowners to strengthen and maintain regular clean-up drive activities in their surroundings to arrest the possible spread of water borne disease, especially dengue.
“Every nook and cranny of local schools must be kept spic and span so as not to risk the pupils contracting the deadly disease,” he said.
“We could not be complacent. We must take all the necessary preventive measures to ensure a safe and clean environment not only to protect the people but Mother Earth as well,” Aguilar said.
Aguilar also directed earlier barangay officials and green volunteers in Las Piñas City to conduct clean-up activities to clear waterways and all tributaries of wastes in preparation before the onset of the rainy season to prevent flooding. (END)

SINAMPAHAN kahapon ng pulisya ng kasong pagnanakaw ang tatlong kagawad ng Las Piñas police dahil sa umano’y pagtangay ng malaking halaga ng salapi at cellphone sa loob ng bahay na kanilang sinalakay noong Sabado ng gabi sa Pasay city.
Ibinatay ni PO3 Rodolfo Suquina Jr., imbestigador ng Pasay Police Investigation Division, ang paghahain ng kaso sa Pasay City Prosecutors Office laban kay PO1 Leonardo Angio at dalawa pa niyang kasamahang pulis na hindi pa nakikilala sa reklamo ng 56-anyos na biyuda na naninirahan sa pinasok nilang bahay sa Block 4, Lot 8, Saint Rita St. Bgy. Maricaban, dakong alas-11:30 ng gabi noong Sabado.
Ayon sa salaysay ng biyudang si Maria Rebalde, nasa loob siya ng kanyang inuupahang silid nang makarinig siya ng kaguluhan sa labas sanhi ng ginawang pagsalakay ng pulisya sa hinihinalang lungga ng mga drug pushers sa kanilang lugar.
Sa takot na madamay, ikinandado ni Rebalde ang kanyang inuupahang silid at nang papalabas na siya ng bahay ay nasalubong pa niya si Angio na umano’y dating pulis-Pasay, kasama ang dalawa pang nakasibilyang pulis na kapuwa may hawak na baril na pumasok at umakyat sa kabahayan.
Sinabi ni Rebalde na pinuntahan din siya ng kanyang anak na si Maricel, 29, nakatira sa 837-B I. Santos St. Malibay, nang mabalitaan ang kaguluhan sa kanilang lugar at nakita nito ang ginawang pagwasak nina Angio sa kandado ng inuupahan niyang silid.
Matapos ang pagsalakay, natuklasan ni Rebalde na nawawala ang P25,000 cash at P17,000 na halaga ng cellphone na ipinadala sa kanya ng anak na nagtatrabaho sa Japan. Edd Reye

Las Pinas-Zapote substation restored; More power in south metro

SYSTEM OPERATOR National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) has finished repairing a key substation that had been damaged in March and crippled the delivery of power to Metro Manila.
NGCP, which operates power grids and transmission systems, yesterday said it restored the Las Piñas-Zapote substation by installing a 300-megavolt ampere transformer to replace a damaged unit which had caused the firm to rely on contingency measures to sustain the grid’s integrity.
The substation is one of the six entry points of power into Metro Manila and the Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) franchise area.
It is part of Meralco’s subtransmission system that feeds power to Makati, Fort Bonifacio, Ortigas, Parañaque, Alabang, Cainta and Marikina.
“The Las Piñas transformer was energized ahead of schedule on April 29.
It was included again in the loop of substations that supply electricity to the South of Metro Manila by April 30,” the company said in a statement.
The damage to the Las Piñas substation had meant any surge in power supply or any other transmission problems could overload the system. — Emilia Narni J. David

MANILA, Philippines—What began as a bicycle ride with friends for the manager of a local shipping firm on Saturday ended in his abduction, with a number of men dressed in police uniforms whisking him away to a still unknown location.
The Las Piñas Police identified the victim as Vicente Cordero III, 27, the manager of Shogun Ships Co. Inc., which specializes in transporting petroleum products from local refineries to individual clients.
Senior Superintendent Romulo Sapitula said that the incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday while Cordero was biking with his companions along Daang Hari Road in front of the Versailles Subdivision in Las Piñas.
“Apparently, then, a white Mitsubishi Adventure van with plate number WBF 237 blocked the group. Only Cordero was taken away,” Sapitula said.
Around six men, all wearing the Philippine National Police athletic t-shirts and carrying M16 rifles and .45-caliber pistols, grabbed the struggling Cordero and threw him inside the van.
The kidnappers then drove off toward Alabang.
Sapitula said the police have yet to identify the abductors.
“While we still do not know who did this, our officers are monitoring the city to spot the vehicle used,” he said, adding investigators were still trying to determine a motive for the abduction.
