On the orders of City Mayor Florencio Bernabe, Jr., the Parañaque PNP, Bureau of Fire Protection and barangay government units raised their alert level during the Holy Week.

Apart from mobile patrols; security details in churches and religious processions; and checkpoints in major thoroughfares, the P’que PNP will also set up a 24-hour motorist assistance center at Roxas Boulevard cor. MIA Road.

For their part, Barangay Tanod squads will be increasing the frequency of their foot patrols in the communities.

Like always, the Parañaque Emergency Response Unit (P.E.R.U.) of the City Health Office will be on 24/7 duty.

“The incidence of fires and burglaries are known to rise during this most sacred of occasions when whole families go to pilgrimage sites or visit relatives in home provinces leaving their places of residence unattended. It is for this reason that we have placed the Parañaque PNP,BFP and BGU barangay tanod and disaster brigades on heightened alert.”, Mayor Bernabe said.

Meanwhile, the local chief executive urged citizens to make sure that their houses are secure from robbers and safe from fires before proceeding to their destinations.

He also encouraged next door neighbors to report to their barangay government unit and to the said protective service bureaus any suspicious activity or occurrence in their community.

In line with its health program, the Parañaque City Government under the leadership of Mayor Florencio Bernabe, Jr. has lined up an array of activities that will highlight this year’s celebration of Nutrition Month in the city.

“Good nutrition practices contribute greatly to the physical and mental development of children. It is for this reason that we continue with our advocacy thereon to effectively combat malnutrition towards having a healthy community.”, Mayor Jun Bernabe said.

“Basic services will remain as my focus and concentration during my last term of office as local chief executive.”, Parañaque City Mayor Florencio Bernabe, Jr. stressed in his inaugural speech.  Bernabe publicly took his oath office before the Honorable Jansen Rodriguez, Parañaque RTC Branch 259 Presiding Judge on Monday, July 5, 2010 at the San Antonio Gym, following a Thanksgiving mass and the customary flag-raising ceremony.

With the infrastructure engine and other systems firmly in place and running as programmed, the mayor set his sights on four immediate concerns at the start of his third term of office: Flooding; depressed areas; garbage; and traffic.

Although vigorous measures have already been undertaken to mitigate these issues, there are still much to be done and the mayor will stop at nothing to minimize, if not eliminate these problems.

The city has purchased the “Spider” backhoe to clear creeks of debris. The recent acquisition, a  dredging machine is now being used in cleaning the Parañaque River which is the catch basin of all waterways in the city. Rip rapping of major creeks is continuously being done to prevent soil erosion.

Parañaque City will soon be squatter-free. The city government’s program for its urban poor is working well. Its partnership with the Gawad Kalinga (GK), well-meaning corporations and NGOs has given birth to numerous socialized housing projects that benefitted thousands of marginal families in the city. Parañaque now has 30 GK villages, the second best record and feat in the NCR.

Although there are existing Materials Recovery Facilities (MRF) in various barangays of the city, the local government will build a central MRF which will accommodate a greater volume of garbage for further segregation.

Since the installation of Closed-circuit television (CCTV) in strategic locations in the city, traffic enforcers and police officers are able to watch the streets, keeping them orderly and safe. Parañaque will soon have its own asphalt batching plant for its road maintenance project. This will make travels inland and to various destinations through our main thoroughfares comfortable and convenient.

All these programs and projects are meant as service to the citizens of the city and to inculcate love of city and cultivate genuine “Pride in Parañaque!”.

Here is an open letter submitted to Alabang Bulletin by a BF Homeowner last week:

Mr. Mayor,

First I would like to commend your people in the Municipal hall for being so friendly and efficient. I was so impressed with how everyone would greet me whichever floor I am at. I was at your Municipal last year and this year and the great service has not changed, they are all consistent so KUDOS to you Mayor Bernabe!!!

Now, since you have mentioned above on having NO INCREASE IN BUSINESS TAXES…. I would like to take advantage of this venue in bringing to your ATTENTION and beg that you really investigate on, and I am not sure how they were allowed to operate business, but I am alarmed on how most of the BARs in BF HOMES Parañaque don’t have Business Permits. I know this because 1 – when you ask for an Official Receipt after eating/drinking at those bars the attendants will honestly tell you that they don’t have an OR to issue; then 2 – to understand why they don’t issue OR, I inquired at your Munisipyo about CABOOZE Bar (just to name 1 and prove its true), and guess what? of course they are not listed in your Munisipyo and has no Business Permit.

I am a concerned citizen of BF Homes Parañaque, disappointed with the violence and traffic caused by these BARs along Aguirre.
Please prove that you WERE and you ARE still worth my vote. I don’t understand why your office could not control the office of JEREMY Marquez (Barangay BF)where in he is just the Barangay Captain and you are the CITY MAYOR? Rules and Regulations ran by your office is totally different or opposite of what Barangay BF implements.

We, BF Homeowners, are challenging you and looking forward to what you can do with this concern.

Thank you for your time.
