Alleged carjacker killed in Paranaque shootout; Driver of stolen vehicle, a cop.

MANILA – An alleged carjacker was killed and 3 of his companions were arrested in a shootout in Paranaque City, police said Monday.

The Philippines National Police-Highway Patrol Group (HPG) said the suspects engaged them in a shootout last March 2 along Dona Soledad Avenue in Better Living Subdivision.

Police were holding an anti-carjacking operation along Dona Soledad Avenue about 12:30 p.m. Saturday when they stopped a Toyota Altis that had a red plate.

While police were approaching the vehicle, a passenger in the Toyota Altis fired his gun at police but missed.

The driver of the vehicle who was wearing a police athletic uniform then stepped on the gas and tried to run over one of the HPG members.

A car chase ensued, with vehicle being intercepted at St. Peter Street in Marikaban, Pasay City.

The suspects’ vehicle plate number was later discovered as not the car’s original plate.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Police Officer 1 Khomenie Dacula of the Basilan police office.

Authorities recovered a caliber .45 pistol, a silencer, and ammunition from him.

While Dacula was being questioned, a taxi driver informed police that 2 wounded men flagged him down and asked to bring them to Fourth Estate in Sucat.

Police arrested 3 of the suspects, including the 2 wounded men, at a house in Puentebello Subdivision, San Antonio, Paranaque City.

They were identified as Marvin Winston, Salvador Mamac and Omar Tarasan.

Ammunition and various documents were recovered from the house.

Mamac and Tarasan were brought to Paranaque Community Hospital for medical treatment but Mamac expired Monday morning.

Two other suspects who remain at large were identified only as alias “Romeo Bato” and “Bidong Mamon”.
