Another re-routing in Baclaran; Please be advised
To address the worsening traffic condition in Baclaran, the Parañaque City Government, through its Traffic Management Office, by virtue of the powers and prerogatives provided by City Ordinance No. 05-04 (56), Series of 2004, also known as the “Parañaque City Traffic Management Code”, will implement a rerouting scheme in the area effective October 18, 2010.
Known as one of the best centers for dry goods, droves of shoppers, traders, bargain-hunters troop to Baclaran daily for best buys. Added to this throng are hundreds of Catholics who visit the National Shrine of the Our Mother of Perpetual Help for their petitions. The number is doubled and tripled on Wednesdays when novenas are scheduled at the Redemptorist Church. An even bigger crowd is expected on holidays, particularly during the Christmas season.
To ensure its feasibility, prior consultations were made with the various interest groups and stakeholders among them the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA); public transport operators (PUJ/PUB); and Baclaran vendor groups.
Pursuant to Traffic Circular No. 02, Series of 2010, all Public Utility Jeepneys (PUJ) emanating from the south and whose endpoint, turnaround point or junction as indicated in their franchise issued by the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board is at Baclaran, shall take the following route:
Northbound from Quirino Avenue, turn left at Airport Road then turn right at the Roxas Boulevard Service Road; turn right at Redemptorist Road then take another right at Quirino Avenue southbound towards Tambo. PUJs are prohibited from parking along the designated route.
Private vehicles coming from the north going to the Redemptorist area may make a U-turn at the intersection of Roxas Blvd. and Airport Rd. Upon reaching Redemptorist Road, they can then turn right; go straight ahead to park inside the church grounds or turn left at the Roxas Blvd. Svc. Rd.
As a point clarification, the “two-way” flow of traffic will be maintained at the Redemptorist Rd. and particular parts of Quirino Avenue, however for private vehicles only. Meanwhile, the “oneway” direction of flow will be observed by all vehicles traversing through Airport Road and adjacent parts of the Roxas Blvd. Service Road.
This rerouting scheme will be on an experimental basis, subject to further review, modification and/or ratification by the Parañaque City Council.
Please feel free to communicate with the Parañaque Traffic Management Office through telephone 829-1458 for more information or any question on the rerouting scheme.
