MANILA, Philippines – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) backed up by the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) and the Philippine National Police (PNP) yesterday tore down illegal campaign posters in Parañaque City.
Comelec officer Jonalyn Sabellano led the clearing operation at 10 a.m. near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and Sucat.
Sabellano said campaign materials posted outside designated common poster areas were removed.
But motorists said oversized posters are still posted on trees and electric posts in the area.
The Comelec officer said the campaign materials were turned over to the MMDA for documentation.
The clearing operation was carried out after local candidates ignored a notice by the Comelec asking them to remove their illegal campaign materials.
