At least P21 million worth of “ukay-ukay” (used) clothing items were seized following raids on warehouses in Parañaque City and Laguna province, the Bureau of Customs said Thursday.
Customs Commissioner Rozzano Rufino Biazon went to one of the raided warehouses in Laguna to inspect the seized items, radio dzBB’s Sam Nielsen reported.
According to Customs deputy commissioner for intelligence Danilo Lim, more than 2,100 boxes of “ukay-ukay” items were seized during the three raids. At least 1,200 boxes were seized in Biñan in Laguna, while 400 more were found in a compound in San Pedro, Laguna. Another 300 boxes of items were found in a Parañaque City warehouse.
Lim said the seized items included clothes, bags and shoes, which he said came from Hong Kong, Singapore and the United States.
A news release from the Bureau of Customs said three closed delivery vans were seized earlier by BOC operatives near the three warehouses. The vans contained 200 boxes of illegally imported used clothing. — DVM, GMA News
