December 19 declared holiday in Muntinlupa

Malacañang has declared December 19 this year as a special non-working holiday in Muntinlupa in celebration of its centennial anniversary.

According to the Muntinlupa City government, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea, by authority of President Rodrigo Duterte, signed Proclamation No. 327 on October 4 declaring the non-working day.

The holiday was declared to give Muntinlupa residents the opportunity to commemorate the 100 years of the city.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Muntinlupa be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies,” Medialdea said in the proclamation.

Among the events on the day are a Thanksgiving Mass at the Muntinlupa City Hall Grounds in Putatan and a Centennial Festival at the Muntinlupa Sports Complex in Tunasan.

Muntinlupa has been conducting a year-long series of activities for the founding anniversary including the inauguration of Centennial Avenue, Centennial Art Contest, city-wide Boodle Fight, Centennial March, Centennial Motocross and Centennial Festival of Muntinlupa Entrepreneurs.

On December 19, 1917, Muntinlupa became a municipality by virtue of Executive Order 108 signed by Governor General Francis Burton Harris.
