DPWH asks motorists to avoid Magallanes interchange

The Magallanes Interchange is receiving its first ever repair work since its construction in 1975 and this massive undertaking is expected to have a huge effect in the area’s traffic flow.

That is why the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has appealed to motorists to seek alternative routes instead of taking the Magallanes Interchange to avoid getting stuck in a traffic jam.

“While the Magallanes Interchange is undergoing repair works, we encourage private motorists to voluntarily take alternate routes to reduce vehicles in the area,” said Secretary Rogelio L. Singson in a statement.

The Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has granted the DPWH permission to do repair work from 11PM to 5AM on weekdays and a full 24-hour work schedule during Saturday and Sunday with only one lane closed at any given time.

The Php167-million Magallanes Interchange repair job includes asphalt laying on the third- and second-level flyover, repair of the expansion joints, retrofitting of deck slabs on the second-level and the inner lane of the third-level.

58% of the overall rehab work has already been completed but replacement of the expansion joints for Stage 1 (Osmena-Alabang), retrofitting of top slab for Stage 2 (Ayala to Roxas Boulevard) and asphalt overlay and replacement of expansion joint for Stage 3 (Alabang to Ayala) have yet to be completed.
