Firearms and ammunition seized in LP
A cache of high-powered firearms and ammunition was recovered from the house of a Chinese businessman in Las Piñas at past midnight Wednesday, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said.
Fourteen assault rifles worth P200,000 and two 9-mm. Glock pistols were confiscated by Metro Manila police operatives from the residence of Chinese trader Herbert Tan Tiu in Barangay Talon 3 in Las Piñas City at 12:35 a.m. Wednesday, the NCRPO said in a news release.
The search of Tan Tiu’s residence was carried out by virtue of a warrant issued by Executive Judge Amor Reyes of the Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 21.
Also recovered from the Chinese businessman’s house were 102 magazines for the assault rifle and 45 pieces of Glock pistol ammunition, according to the NCRPO.
Tan Tiu will be charged with illegal possession of firearms, the police office added.
The NCRPO will likewise investigate if the confiscated firearms are part of a failed smuggling attempt of similar rifles in Mariveles, Bataan last year, according to its news release.—Andreo C. Calonzo/JV, GMANews.TV
