LAS PIÑAS CITY, July 24 (PIA) — Las Pinas City Mayor Vergel ‘Nene’ Aguilar ordered all city traffic enforcers to apprehend drivers and impound ‘colorum’ or illegal jeepneys, buses and UV Express services plying along Alabang-Zapote (A-Z) Road.

“The best solution to road congestion is strict enforcement of traffic rules. A chaotic road network impedes economic growth, not to mention its adverse effects on the public,” Aguilar said.

He issued the directive to ease traffic congestion along the 7.5-kilometer stretch of A-Z Road as traffic discipline zone to strictly enforce ordinances including use of loading and unloading areas, jaywalking, illegal parking and related violations.

The local chief executive particularly ordered the enforcers to go after illegal and out-of-line vehicles, as well as those loading or unloading passengers on prohibited areas causing obstruction that leads to road anarchy.

He also urged the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to totally suspend issuance of new franchise to PUVs to minimize volume of vehicles plying the main roads.

Aguilar also appealed to motorists going to and from South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) to refrain from passing through A-Z Road that adds up to traffic build-up especially during peak hours. Some motorists choose to use A-Z Road to avoid paying the toll gates.

On the other hand, residents of the city with Friendship Route sticker are allowed to use specific roadways within select private villages and subdivisions to avoid traffic along the main thoroughfare.

Alabang-Zapote Road is a four-lane road network that serves as main route going to Muntilupa, Laguna and Cavite via Coastal Road. (LAS PIÑAS-PIO/RJB/JEG/PIA-NCR)

What can you say about this? Is this the solution to the ever-present Las Pinas traffic? (-Ed)
