Las Pinas player wins P274-M lotto prize
MANILA – A bettor from Las Piñas City hit the P274-million jackpot of the 6/55 Grand Lotto draw last Saturday, the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) said yesterday.
This is the second time that a bettor from Las Piñas won over a major lotto prize.
The winner beat the odds – calculated at 28.9 million to one – by picking the six-digit combination 35-01-08-27-30-06, PCSO general manager Jose Ferdinand Rojas II said.
Ticket sales soared to P71.7 million from an average of P20 million per draw.
The still unidentified player bought the winning ticket from a lotto outlet along Aguilar Avenue.
On June 1, 2011, a 60-year-old carpenter claimed the P345-million jackpot of the 6/55 Grand Lotto.
The carpenter and his family abandoned their shanty at a compound in Almanza II in Las Piñas and surfaced at the PCSO office to claim the prize.
Rojas said the winner picked the combination, 05-09-19-26 -30-45, based on the birthdays of the members of his family and significant events in their lives.
He was accompanied by two of his sons and two friends when he claimed the prize.
The winner told PCSO officials that aside from being a part-time carpenter, he also worked as a barangay watchman.
The biggest lotto jackpot – P740 million from the 6/55 Grand Lotto – was won by a 60-year-old balikbayan from New York in November 2010.
The 6/55 Grand Lotto is drawn every Monday. Wednesday and Saturday.
