More areas in Manila, Muntinlupa, Taguig placed under lockdown

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, June 17) — The cities of Manila, Muntinlupa, and Taguig in the National Capital Region have placed more areas under lockdown amid increasing number of COVID-19 cases.

The local government of Manila said on Wednesday that Brgy. 60 Zone 5, Brgy. 163 Zone 14, and Brgy. 844 Zone 92 will be placed under “hard lockdown” starting June 19, 12 am until June 20, 11:59 pm. During this period, targeted testing will be conducted to contain the spread of the virus in the communities.

The local government of Taguig said two more areas in Lower Bicutan will be under enhanced community quarantine based on the recommendation of the City Epidemiology Disease Surveillance Unit, which noted a clustering of three or more confirmed COVID-19 cases in the areas.

ECQ in Purok 4 will start on Thursday, 6 pm, and will end by July 1, 6 pm. Yesterday, the city said that ECQ in Purok 5 and 6 starts June 17 at 6 pm and will also end July 1. However, the ECQ may be lifted earlier if there will be no new infections.

There will be door-to-door assessment to properly identify persons that need isolation, the LGU said.

The City Epidemiology unit noted that currently, there are seven cases in Purok 4, eight in Purok 5 and ten in Purok 6.

Both Manila and Taguig Cities said that workers in essential services will be allowed to report to work.

In Muntinlupa City, local officials placed Sitio Pagkakaisa Zone 3 Interior in Brgy. Sucat under “extreme localized community quarantine” which started June 13 and will last until June 26, 11:59 pm.

The local government unit said that as of June 17, there are 17 confirmed cases in the area, one of the highest number of cases among the city’s communities. Clustering of cases has also been observed since the area is congested.

The city previously imposed a lockdown in Morning Breeze, Brgy. Alabang that was lifted on June 16. Strategies done in this area will be reflected in Brgy. Sucat.

The LGU said mass testing was already conducted in the area, and there are 37 probable cases which were already isolated in the barangay’s quarantine facility.

As of June 16, total COVID-19 cases in the City of Manila reached 1,743, in Taguig City at 571 , and in Muntinlupa City at 335.
