MANILA, Philippines – Metro Manila police chief Director Roberto Rosales on Friday sacked the Mutinlupa City Police chief for issuing a police ID to a civilian, who was arrested along with 2 policemen for extortion.
Rosales named Superintendent Romulo Sapitula as acting chief of the Muntinlupa City Police Station, replacing Senior Superintendent Elmer Jamias.
Jamias has been reassigned to the National Capital Region Police Office’s regional personal holdings and accountings unit.
Aside from his relief, Jamias is also facing criminal and administrative charges.
Rosales had said that Jamias can be charged with serious irregularities in the performance of duties for issuing a Philippine National Police identification card to a civilian with the rank of police inspector.
The civilian, identified as JOel Tordillos, was recently arrested along with Muntinlupa policemen, SPO1 Alfredo Mendoza and PO3 Celestino delos Santos, for allegedly extorting money from a businessman.
Rosales said Jamias’s issuance of a police ID to a civilian was questionable. – Report from Dennis Datu, radio dzMM
