Muntinlupa cuts curfew hours

THE Muntinlupa City government on Tuesday announced that it would implement new curfew hours and market schedules during the general community quarantine (GCQ) and
modified GCQ (MGCQ).

Mayor Jaime Fresnedi approved City Ordinance 2020-102 and 2020-103 that alter the  24-hour curfew to six hours from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. The ordinance also imposes new public market hours, especially in the Alabang Public Market.

Fresnedi said the initiative to implement a curfew and market schedule aimed to limit movement and interactions in public places, which were hotspots for the transmission of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

The Muntinlupa City Health Office recorded a spike in local cases during the GCQ starting June 1. The city’s confirmed cases jumped from 226 confirmed cases on May 31 to 303 on June 15.

The curfew period immediately takes effect. No person shall be allowed to go out of their respective homes during the GCQ and MGCQ, except for essential travel and emergency cases.

Violators will be fined P500 for the first offense and P1,000 for succeeding offenses.
Residents violating the curfew will also incur a barangay (village) blotter and cancellation of local grants and benefits from the local government.

Meanwhile, the local government will also enforce a schedule for market-goers in Alabang Public Market. District 1 and non-Muntinlupa residents are scheduled on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, while District 2 residents can buy groceries in Alabang Public Market on Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.  Stalls will be disinfected on Mondays.
