Muntinlupa to distribute 94,847 food packs in 2nd wave of assistance

The Muntinlupa City government will distribute 94,847 food packs in the second wave of assistance for its residents affected by the enhanced community quarantine.

Muntinlupa City spokesperson Tez Navarro said the new distribution is targeting at least 85 percent of the city’s population including residents in subdivisions. She added that the distribution of relief goods will be conducted twice a month for four to six months.

In the first wave of distribution, the local social services department and barangays distributed relief goods to 111,585 indigent families and priority groups, covering about 70 percent of the city’s population. Each relief pack contained of five kiols of rice, 12 pcs. of canned goods, coffee, and sugar.

Muntinlupa Mayor Jaime Fresnedi assured residents that the city is prepared to provide food assistance for as long as four months, should the ECQ be extended further.

In addition, the City Council has passed several ordinances designed to help residents affected by the quarantine. One ordinance provides a two-month payment extension on real property taxes and business taxes without penalties.

Also approved was the advance release of scholarship allowance for students under the Muntinlupa Scholarship Program for the second quarter of the school year.

Lessors of commercial establishments and residential units were also requested to waive rental fees and charges for tenants and partners in the city.

As of April 6, Muntinlupa has 64 confirmed COVID-19 cases, including four deaths and one patient who has recovered.
