P44 toll cut on SLEX proposed
Due to the erstwhile traffic being caused by the Skyway extension project by the side of Muntinlupa on SLEX, a member of the Toll Regulatory Board said the a toll cut of at least P44 should be implemented as soon as possible.
In an interview with Inquirer.net a couple of days ago, TRB member Raymundo Junia, the private sector representative of the five-member board, said he has proposed a reduction in toll fees during the last TRB meeting.
The adjustment, according to Junia, is based on the average toll covering the northbound stretch of SLEX from Susana Heights to Sucat exit.
He said the 8.3-kilometer stretch is the worse-affected by the Skyway extension project which is said to be finished by December 2020.
“For me, the discount is fair for both the consumers, composed of motorists and commuters, ,and the coll concessionaire, which is San Miguel Corp. (SMC) Tollways,” mentioned Junia.
He said the proposal will be dependent on the other TRB members.
The TRB is chaired by Transporation Sec. Arthur Tugade while other members are Public Works Sec. Mark Villar, Finance Sec. Carlos Dominguez III and Socioeconomic Planning Sec. Ernesto Pernia.
The current rate for motorists who take Skyway is P179.
The current construction works have been a bane for South residents as 10-minute trips now extend to hours because of the Skyway extension project.
According to TRB records, there are some 370,000 vehicles who use SLEX per day while there are around 196,000 motorists who pass Skyway daily.
