Paranaque Bureau of Fire strengthens fire prevention campaign

Aiming to reduce the incidence, if not totally prevent fires in the city, the Parañaque Bureau of Fire Prevention (BFP) headed by F/ Supt. Manuel Manuel added new measures and activities to its fire prevention campaign.

In line with this year’s theme, “Kahandaan sa Sunog, Tungo sa Kaunlaran” (Fire Prevention, Towards Progress), the protective service, joined by firefighting units of business establishments, barangay governments and fire volunteer associations led a motorcade in the major thoroughfares in the city.

With this, it hopes to create awareness on the need for every member of the community to exert sustained efforts towards fire risk mitigation and increased disaster readiness.

Other activities that the P’que BFP has lined-up include lectures and fire drills in schools, communities and business establishments; organizational and capability-building seminars and fire brigade competitions for company and barangay fire brigades; and safety inspections of houses, buildings and other facilities.

“The saying “an ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure”, still stands true today. When a person or organization disregards a safety rule, the possibility of a fire becomes imminent. True it can be extinguished but at what cost, millions of pesos worth of properties and many lives lost? Let’s all focus on “preventing rather than fighting fires” for our sake and our family’s and fellow citizens’ safety too.” Mayor Bernabe said.

“Apart from risk reduction, we have a response and disaster management mechanism in place. Also, my administration has exerted efforts to strengthen the capability of the Parañaque BFP and barangay brigades. We continue to supply them with fire trucks and tankers; firefighting and radio communications equipment; personal protective gear and special breathing apparatus.”, he added.
