Parañaque cop headed for new post still scores vs robbers

From The Philippine Daily Inquirer:

A police officer who was already packing his things for a new posting had a last-minute score against crime in Parañaque City.

Chief Insp. Ferjen Torred led an intelligence team that shot dead one of the two men who allegedly held up a woman on Naia Avenue before dawn Friday.

In a report reaching city police chief Senior Supt. Billy Beltran, the team caught the two robbery suspects still pointing their gun at their target, Nerissa Corral Geronio, 25, who worked at Air Force 1, a videoke bar in the area.

One of the suspects was killed in a shoot-out, while the other was able to escape. Geronio’s bag was recovered from the slain suspect, who was not immediately identified.

Reached on the phone on Saturday, Torred described the foiled robbery as an “incidental” accomplishment.

“I was actually on my way to get my things from the [Parañaque police] headquarters, when we came across the robbery,” said the officer.

Torred said he received word last month that he was being transferred to Camp Crame in Quezon City to work for a special projects group under the Department of Interior and Local Government.

“I was just lucky to be able to help the Parañaque police before I moved out.”  Jaymee T. Gamil
