Parañaque cracks down on illegal garbage trucks

MANILA, Philippines – Parañaque City Mayor Edwin Olivarez ordered yesterday a crackdown on garbage trucks whose operators continue to deposit garbage at an illegal dump he had shut down last week.
He directed police officers and the city’s solid waste and environmental sanitation office personnel to apprehend the drivers of vehicles that leave garbage at the dump, located at a private lot along C-5 Road near the Ninoy Aquino International Airport, for operating without any permit from the city government.
The illegal dump, adjacent to a socialized housing project of the city government, reportedly started operating before Olivarez assumed office last year but stopped after the new administration refused to grant it a business permit due to health hazards to nearby communities.
