Paranaque housing project residents get light

HUNDREDS of residents of a former dumpsite in Paranaque that was developed by the city government into a decent housing project could now enjoy the benefits of having electrical connections after several years of waiting to have their community lighted.

Residents of Palanyag Housing Project in Brgy. San Dionisio did not hide their excitement during the recent ceremonial switch on that officially signaled the start of services of power distributor Manila Electric Company (Meralco) in their area.

The community was lighted after the city government through the Urban Mission Areas Development Office (UMADO) made strong representations and then eventually tied up with Meralco and One Meralco Foundation to undertake the project through the Community Electrification Program.

Mayor Edwin L. Olivarez said that the electrification of the community is part of his continuing urban development program that seeks to provide the best possible basic services to the city residents.

“We are firmly committed to bringing the highest possible level of public service to our constituents especially since Paranaque has now become one of the fastest growing cities in the country” Mayor Olivarez said.

UMADO Asst. Administrator Carlos Montero said One Meralco Foundation provided the initial requirements such as electrical posts and transformers that facilitated the eventual electrical connections in the community.

Montero narrated that the place which used to be a dumpsite was first developed as a housing project during the time of former Mayor Pablo Olivarez in 1992 up to 1995.

The elder Olivarez is now the village chief of the place and the father of incumbent Mayor Edwin, who is working hard for the development of every area in the city into model communities.

Montero who was among those who conceptualized and did the comprehensive study of the housing program said that a total of 154 residents will initially benefit from the electrical project.

The rest of the residents would then also enjoy the electrical project once the processing of their necessary documentary requirements are completed.
