Swindler arrested in Las Pinas

A 45-year-old insurance agent was arrested Wednesday for allegedly swindling students in Las Pinas City.
Police identified the suspect as Maria Erlinda Cayetano of Angela Village, Barangay Talon 4, Las Pinas.
The Southern Police District Station 4 said the suspect was arrested in an entrapment operation in a mall at about 7:30 p.m. following a complaint filed by three college students on August 28.
Police disclosed that Cayetano duped third year college students Nadine Sadiasa, Louella Mariz Dominguez, and Abegail Vacante, all 20-year-old third year college students of the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta-Las Pinas by offering to pay their midterm examinations through a machine-validated bank deposit slip.
Cayetano told the victims that she will pay half of their balance and that the other half could be paid in installment basis.
The victims agreed and gave their money to the suspect. They presented their slips to their school cashier but were rejected as these were invalid.
They immediately contacted Cayetano who could no longer be reached.
On September 2 at about 10 a.m., Sadiasa received a text message from Cayetano regarding her payment that should be made that day in the mall. This prompted Sadiasa to seek police assistance and an entrapment operation was set. (Rachel Joyce E. Burce)
